Considering the fact that I only pledged towards Frontiers, I'm probably not the best person to ask for advice about Kickstarter.

The only two REALLY GOOD games other than Frontiers I stumbled across were

Project Eternity
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obs ... y?ref=card

Torment: Tides of Numenera
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inx ... a?ref=card

Both projects are funded, and both try to mimic the old Baulders Gate type of gameplay.

Also there is the

Oculus Rift

I've been plugging Lacuna Passage for days now. It looks like a ton of fun.

They had me worried for a while but it looks like they'll pull through.

Yes. Lacuna Passage has some serious potential. Would LOVE to see it make the OR stretch goal.

Vance, you may be interested in it for that reason. And because it looks amazeballs.

im in for Lacuna Passage

other KS that might be of interest:

LIONESS - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/967459848/lioness
(not the Lion Addon!)

P&C (?) adventure game.
$7 tier nets 14 games or 8 games w/ one being 7 part episodes.

---

Legend of Iya - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/523651724/legend-of-iya

Platformer / metroidvania-esque.
pixel artist has been working on his game off and on for over a decade and finally is taking off and focusing on his own project.
Vote Frontiers on GOG.com!!!

Centration was looking to be a pretty promising game. They have unfortunately cancelled their Kickstarter campaign, but it is still in production anyways.

I stumbled across this one from another forum, its called

7 Days to Die - Zombie Survival Game
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/7da ... vival-game

it's a cross between minecraft and DayZ, but I'm not getting a bit sick of zombie games this that another, as there been plenty of them, but still, this does look interesting, haven't backed it, but might keep an eye on it, but I backed a few too many games, so need to slow down,

There's far too much zombie-anything going on as of late. I feel like a hipster saying this, but I used to enjoy zombie flicks, table-top games (Zombies!!!), etc. But seriously, even Brad Pitt is in a zombie flick now. It's getting pretty old.

I am very interested in Lacuna Passage. I love Space games.

MotorGun looks like it could be a good vehicular combat game with plenty of customization to it.

It's already been Kickstarter funded, but if you like Frontiers and appreciate great coding and communication skills, you might also be interested in Limit Theory.

Plus I see that Gazz and DWMagus, who are moderators on the Limit Theory forums, have managed to get themselves installed as moderators here as well, so that's convenient! (Was there a call for Community Managers that I didn't get the email for? )

You might also like TUG (The Unnamed Game) from Nerd Kingdom, who are trying some very different things. They just released their private alpha build, so they're making good progress. (Sadly, their alpha requires a DX11-capable graphics card, something even the space combat-focused Limit Theory Prototype doesn't demand. TUG is still a remarkable design, though.)

Sui Generis looks promising. It is funded, but you can pledge via PayPal from their official site.

It's a Diablo-ish game, with realistic physics and "realtime" story. So if you start up the game, find a town or someplace safe and stay there, the story and the world will carry on without you. And eventually the main storyline of the game will end.. and probably not in the way you would have done it. I recommend watching the video on the Kickstarter page. It'll explain things allot better than I'll ever do. (since my English isn't really that great)

Gaming Theory Philosopher... I like it!

Now I'm philosophizing how one would earn the badge for that.

  • Number of wall-of-text posts (assuming someone wouldn't just cut-and-paste "asdfghjk" ten thousand times)?
  • Frequency of bullet-points used?
  • Average number of references to other games when talking about [this one]?
  • Number of references to previously written articles explaining exactly how everything should be done?
  • Number of games the writer has actually helped publish == 0?
Just some thoughts. :)

I've also decided to back Lacuna Passage. Although I'm normally not a fan of single-player games, I do love all things Mars-related. It may also be quite interesting to use with Oculus Rift.

I hope they get the funds they need.

I'm sure Lars is going to get sick of me parroting him (if he isn't already) but this game looks pretty perfect.

Anyone who was in love with Worms and/or Little Big Planet will be interested in this one. It seems to encompass the best features of both and incorporate a complicated physics engine with interaction between lava, water, and other elements. Very cool but in danger of not being funded. : (

i wanted to back this one. i loved the way it looked and how they were going to build the terrain. and loved the fact it was like playing Perma-death mode always (IIRC) no saves (besides computer off time) or something in that vein.

but i hate when Kickstarters make you pledge in £ instead of $.
minor issue - KS game always have more expensive tiers when its in £s. its like im getting hit with the VAT instead.
major issue - instead of pledging and being able to bump up or down at whim when you pledge in £ you have to pay on the spot, even if the project is unsuccessful or ongoing. (or this is how it seemed when i was about to pledge for one KS in £, hit the brakes on it right there c/o this 'feature')
also a reason i avoid IndieGoGo.

im sure its easier for KS creators who's local currency is in £s and so they dont 'lose' funding due to the conversion rates on the day the KS ends or whatever but it is a drag as a KS user.

im gonna wait it out and get Sui Generis if it hits GOG.com or Desura or HumbleStore in $.
but that game did look quite promising.
Vote Frontiers on GOG.com!!!

The game that made me register on Kickstarter (and one of the best I've seen so far in my short time there, second only to Frontiers) was "The Realm", which was unsuccessful (was about 50% funded), but apparently that was mostly due to the campaign being in £ (seemingly a huge turnoff for many people) and getting the necessary exposure too late. But they are going to give it another shot later this year afaik, with the campaing being in US-Dollars this time around.

I am currently backing two space related games and they both use Hi-Res Actual Data for their landscapes...

Lacuna Passage - Fantastic looking game about exploring Mars & figuring out what happen.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tyl ... e?ref=live

Colonisation: Moonbase - Build & Manage your own moon colony. Like Simcity only better. He has a great new video up, so check it out
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/993 ... c?ref=live

Hope Colonisation: Moonbase makes it's funding, you can build any where there's no grid system like Simcity has. It's an English (UK) project, thats why colonization is spelled with an S instead of a Z and they use pounds instead of dollars even though both are listed now. There are lots of interesting & cool things I'd like to play around with.

Lacuna Passage looks like it will make it funding goal. Should be a lot of fun playing this game too

I Highly Recommend both of these games !!!

Check them out and support them if you can.

One that I didn't see posted (at least, when I skimmed quickly) but I think deserves a mention is Satellite Reign.

(look it up on Kickstarter- I can't post a link to it since this is my first post!)

They're on the fast track to getting funded, but note that it is NOT a US dollar ($) campaign, which I know is a barrier to some.

In any case, in Satellite Reign you control a small squad in an attempt to bring down a Megacorporation more or less on your own, in a cyberpunk-ish metropolis.

EDIT: Whoops! This one was indeed mentioned... in that case I second it!

I haven't seen this one mentioned so I will throw it in.

Monochroma by NoWhere studios.
It's very Limbo-esque, and I think this game owes a lot to Limbo, but that's not a bad thing. When I played the demo, personally I felt very, very immersed into the world, even on low graphics settings and with a delayed jump button (seriously hate it when up is the jump). Within a few minutes of gameplay, I was pretty much talking to the little brother NPC, carrying on subjects like being a big boy about pain, dealing and enjoying the rain, and HOLY SAWMILLS.

I like Frontiers because it seems the focus is on immersion into a world, well Monochroma gives an immersion to it's own kind of simple world, where you just get lost in your own ramblings and thoughts while solving puzzles and bonding with an NPC that may as well be a rock or something.

I love perusing Kickstarter for games that I think look fun and have intriguing new ideas, and this game intrigues the hell out of me. Tangiers is a stealth game being made by just a few people that are pursuing it with a lot of passion and artistic intent. What more could you ask for?

I've backed Lacuna Passage as well. I'd love to see it knock down a few stretch goals before the funding window closes -- just 3 days left now!
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tyl ... na-passage

I also backed Monochroma. It seems a bit like a cross between Ico and Limbo, both personal favorites.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/445 ... monochroma

Nobody's mentioned Candle yet. If you liked quirky adventure games like Machinarium, go check out the beautiful hand-animated artwork on Candle.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/spa ... -adventure

And then there's the intriguing Legend of Grimrock / XCOM mashup, SPACE SHOCK. These guys have a long way to go to meet their funding target, but the combination of old-school RPG dungeon crawl with tactical turn based combat seemed too interesting to miss.

Whew. That's enough for now!

I backed Candle already and was finally convinced to read enough about Lacuna Passage to back it. The other game not mentioned yet is Tangiers, which is an open-world stealth game with a dark, surrealist aesthetic:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/18 ... st-stealth

It appears, on closer inspection, that Tangiers was mentioned two posts above. Oops.
