Haha, certainly looks like that! At least we now know why there aren't any boats!

But would the sushi think it was in a boat if it was served on a boat in a lunch basket? Ehhhh? I bet you didn't think about that now did ya...  Boat in boat!

@Lars,

Leviathan looks awesome, are those rendered in-game graphics or something? It doesn't look like a paper sketch, looks like it has already been modeled. Not sure why I even ask, but I like how it looks. Is it for sea travel for us to ride it? I don't want to sit on it's eyes! It might accidentally drive into innocent passer-whale.

Is the second one a sink hole, meteor strike or some guy just really confused that he is walking on fire? And it somehow ended up being a portal to a <candy factory>

And now that I actually saw the gallery .. for some reason the first time I looked at this thread Lars' first post was blank...

The Leviathan reminds me of the monsters from Tremors. :D

That sinkhole sketch reminds me of the tainted areas of Terraria. Will the sinkholes TAKE OVER THE WORLD?!?!?

Maybe the "sinkhole" is where the leviathans come up at night to walk the land wearing a top hat and a bow-tie?

Forgive my ignorance, but in the picture of the Leviathan, what does BNA stand for?

I don' think anyone but Lars may know at this time (and those on the dev team, possibly).

Evidently it is something with a year, so...

Before Noodly Appendixes?

Before Naughty Apes?

Before Normal Aardvarks?

:dunno:

Do tell, Lars!

'BNA' = Before New Age. (We're working on our calendars now, so this term might not make it into the final lore.)

No butterflies then? :(

Haha, cheers for clarifying. Isn't Before New Age, basically the same as Old Age, or am I simply being simple?

Well, he could always change it to AP, Anno Pieridae, the year of the butterfly...

But I doubt it.

Wouldn't that imply that there was a time before butterflies!?!!!

Also, love the look of the new island terrain picture!

In the beginning, there was darkness. Then the butterflies came, and then there was light...

And agreed, the screenshots look pretty beast. We don't have any that are shopped for background resolutions, do we?

And the ingame result may be something entirely different. =)

That's concept art and an art direction. It's one big construction site and chips and sparks are flying everywhere. =)

But one thing you can see. Things are moving.

All of them are gorgeous in their own unique way. Even if they do show a stick-man going "wtf", it's still all good.

I'm also with the idea of having some boosted up to wallpaper size, it would be brilliant!

Yay, art! I have no idea what something like the Leviathan would be doing in this game (at this point), so I hope that's exciting.

And the Riverbog sketch makes an excellent iOS wallpaper, I must say.

I talked Lars into including that one. Against his better (and no doubt more professional) judgement.
Just a small scribble of a possible setting and scale. It's still development and people love those small peeks behind the curtain!

Feral wrote:I'm also with the idea of having some boosted up to wallpaper size, it would be brilliant!

The Riverbog picture is already 1920x1080.
IMO, that's the only one "finished" enough for a wallpaper.

How big do wallpapers need to be nowadays?

Please excuse my pedantry but predators generally develop their eyes more anteriorly and forward facing. The predated are the ones which need the 360 view.

Is the implication that these beasts hunt by sonar? Or have lateral lines which detect movement and pressure changes in water? Or ampullae on their... snouts which detect electrical signals like a shark? OR ALL THREE!? I'm willing to suspend disbelief... but i'll need at least a half-assed excuse. ; )

The pictures look absolutely brilliant and aren't helping me fight the urge to dive in and play. When i initially backed i was expecting a very basic game developed, essentially, by one man. The pictures are hinting at the contrary. Perhaps the beta will look like the game i expected to see as the final product. The suspense is terrible... I hope it'll last.

Wonderful!

I think these fierce predators mainly hunt by eyesight and you're right, the eyes would make more sense toward the front.

I think the thing looks absolutely brutal and if i'm honest I hope you don't change a thing. Something about not being able to see your enemies eyes...
